Looking out, feeling in.

Looking out, feeling in.

The dark side of my soul sees the greener grass beyond.
That step across chasmic divides, the stride beyond my compass.
Tangible brick work damming and damning.
Prison walls.
Water glistens, a warm glow splashing,
challenging the thirst.
Sunlight plays melodies
on leaf and limb
stalk and stem.
But the darkness
traps me inside
a life sentence
where life
is no life at all.
This is all mine
if I am my own, mine to keep, my confinement
if I have
no other God.
