If I turn my face away

If I turn my face away

If I turn my face away
Your flow of refreshment,
a surging torrent which surrounds me,
does not satisfy.
This vantage point offers only a taste,
a shadow of the feast,
a place for sediment to gather
and the occasional eddy of response.
If I turn my face away
my eyes are blinded
by dark things and grey imaginings
flood my soul.
If I turn my face away
stale brackishness taints
the purity of what once was;
what could be
becomes failing taste.
If I turn my face away
drops in a bucket
fail to satisfy
the thirst.
