Glow in the dark

Glow in the dark

A glow of yesterday glimpses today.
Redundant in daylight's boldness
its warm and blushing smile
reassures and promises
a lantern to the feet
when darkness returns.
A beacon for lovers
in nightly quiet seclusion
as youth fumbles and gropes
in familiar echoes
of forbiddances.

Who passes by without a glance,
without thought for your secrets
the trysts of lovers,
the sharing of paths,
the broken promises
of meetings that never happened?

And if you were not here
like prayers never made,
what lurking dangers would have battled,
what bloodied souls would have fallen,
what tomorrows would lie broken ?

Who offers a ‘thank you’ for your sentry duty ?
Like a parent’s nighttime kiss
upon a sleeping child
no one notices.
