Vaulting

Gloucester Cathedral

vaulting,
looking up
at heaven road
load bearing
beauty

like veins
muscle bound
Atlases of stone
hold heaven
at bay

and now
in safety
the fallen stand
gazing up
in awe

attraction

(haikus)

St Mary de Lode, (Gloucester)

attraction within
draws the thorny attention
of beauty without

yellow incenses
delight the summer garden
the rose is praising

bees in petal pews
sing their honeyed worship song
busy in their work

the world passes by
in ignorant day dreaming
but prayers still rise

the church is not walls
wherein God dwells silent
but canvas in wait

riches of heaven

Gloucester Cathedral

in giddy bright enthronement
a vibrant heaven
sings its colours
when all is quiet
and the crown of salvation
is held above
meagre mortal

and colour is prayer
and colour is worship
and colour
is the richness
of heaven
