the set changes

The set changes
with a yellow wash
as another day leaves the stage.
The coverlet of evening is turned
and the drawing of curtains begins.
Street-light stars await the dusking,
their luminance in abeyance
for the now.
Birds commence their silence
nest-resting,
or gathered like Quakers
for the Spirit of morning to move them.
Dreams create novelty
from the day’s realities
as they debrief in recreation
crying for opportunities
to change harsh words
and the unkindness of day.
The set changes,
a yellow wash
rearranges perception
in the transition to darkness.
