Loggerheads

Unchanged we grow older
unwisened by our age
confined by hackneyed politics
an indifferent cage.
The poor are always present
on permanent parade
unseen beyond bureaucracy
but noted, scaled and weighed.
And in the balance
we sheep maintain the fold
that encloses all but none of us,
for we’re already sold.
We bought our freedom
at a price beyond our purse
and entered independent wish
in dependant curse.
