Rise up

Rise up

Beauty and danger
regal feathered fusion
stalking eyed.
The moment before flight,
flexing, anticipating,
a heartbeat away from freedom.
My God made you,
gave you a splendour of your own
in sharp betrayal of your nature.
There is blood in your eyes,
wary self-survival in your heart
and threat in your breath.
How alike we are,
when feather and skin stripped
soul is bared,
we are brothers.
