Nativity

The star-dance overture
choir-sung carolling
of the skies.
The mystical one light
the Son light
the new things begun light.
The nativity
activity.

Stars and angels came

                                                               They shone,
their eyes aglow with fun
and ours with tears.
And ‘twinkle’ loud
and proud
resounded in our ears.

True, the donkey strayed,
but just a bit
when all is said and done;
and it added another layer
to the wondrous
sense of fun.

Angels danced
and kings came
and livestock by the herd.
The narrators even
triumphed
‘cos we heard every word.

They shone,
their eyes aglow with fun
and ours with tears.
Christmas begins.

Come the morning

Christmas (Come the morning)

Come the morning
sparkled bright and clear
when drear night turns away.
Come the morning
cloudless with angels,
new as fresh snow,
guiltless.
Come the morning
unspoiled, unbroken,
unambiguous
before the bigamy
of disparate ideals.
Come the morning
with the clarity
of freshly sprung water.
Come the morning
smelling of newborn.
Come the morning
and the gentle cries
of the child.
Come the morning.

Advent Oddessy

The new book for Christmas 2012.

From rhyme and free verse to narrative meditation, there will be something in 'Advent Oddessy'  for most tastes.
Don't expect to like it all or to find all the pieces 'comfortable' or 'nice'  because there was little that was comfortable  about that first Advent.   The 'wise men' only appear in passing due to their being late to the party. And here we won't dabble with the villain of the piece - Herod doesn't  feature at all.

to sample some of the pages click on this.   Better still, follow the prompts and BUY a copy.  Makes a great Christmas present so buy one for someone else too!

Poor old Joe

Poor old Joe

Poor old Joe.
Overlooked, carrying the can,
doing the "honourable thing".

Poor old Joe.

Your father's father's forbear
marked your card.
History dealt you the hand.
You even had to trudge for miles
to suit some foretold plan.
Poor old Joe.

Your relatives weren't overkeen
pregnant lady by your side
motel stable had to suffice.
Then all that fuss and do and come and go.
Baby birthing, mother squealing,
all a bit much when you're tired
and beyond your prime.
Poor old Joe.

Then when all the commotion calms
the common folk come calling.
"Isn't he sweet"
"Bet you're proud"
Then the clincher:
"Got his dad's chin"
(yeah, like they've seen Him !)
Poor old Joe.

But your eyes are on the child Joe
and the look on your face
says you're the richest man
in the world.
