like a garment

If we wore our loves

like a garment,

or maybe Marley's chains,

some would rust

toward tarnish and dust

and others would retain

their beauty and their shine.

For some of our loves

would be lasting,

beyond constraints of time.

Others fall,

in storms and in squall

of the flotsam and the slime,

more vinegar than wine.
