Rush and bluster white-water
bellows its way
to calmer places.
Here, though, it plays 'bulldog'
in the inclined playground,
chomping at inconvenient rocks
in its urgent passing.
Down.
Here
it speeds,
or twists in eddies,
as its foaming voice
Geronimo's abandonment.
Down, down,
Adventuring, pursuing,
following and creating
paths of novelty and antiquity
down, down, down.
It will rest, exhausted,
at the end of its slalom,
in the lower reaches
where its adolescent exuberance
is spent
down, down, down.
Down in the valley
out of sight.
