the church enquires of the sky.
Chorister birds hymn within
its curtaining hedgerow,
the holy of holies
unassailed by parishioners.
Midweek fear keeps the door locked -
a chastity belt
confronting passersby
in their pilgrim wanderings.
This tent of meeting
forbidding company;
God is abroad.
