We cannot all be ‘beautiful’

visual feasts, banquets of colour

and bringers of fairy tales.

We cannot all be unicorns.

We do not all enchant

nor stretch imagination

or encourage endeavour

and maidens’ favour.

We cannot all be unicorns.

We may not all bring beneficence

as we journey

or light paths

for others on their way.

Sometimes it’s right

just to travel

and the light

will unravel in our wake.

Sometimes it’s sufficient

not to compete

but just ‘be’.
