No longer in
dreams,
we are more than
we were;
for we were I and
we were you.
In dreams we
attempted the impossible
but now the
impossible
does not tempt
for we are
strangers
to impossibility.
In dreams we wrestled
with tomorrows
but now, with
yesterdays at our side,
‘tomorrow’ is
merely tangled grass
that careful
steps can breach.
Our dreams are
not the dreams of youth
the immediate,
passion
and the cliff
edge of life.
Those dreams are long
passed
but the dreams of
forever
hold us in warm embrace,
softer than
ardour,
more enduring than
eager love.
